It was so hilariously shameless how Avey Tare called Prince Rama his favorite band in that NME interview.
Maybe your excitement towards a particular band could prompt you to call them your favorite but wouldn't it had been a little more modest to mention a group or artist who is not on your own label?
Not if it's the truth =/ It's not like they're on his own label by accident.
And he said they were his favorite recent band.
Um, yeah, maybe they signed them because of how much he liked them? :?
I can't imagine his intentions being "Ooh, here's an opportunity to indirectly promote my label! Yeah! What's the latest band we've signed?"
Then again, I can't imagine him ever doing anything that isn't cool or nice so maybe I'm not the best person to talk about it.
OK, 'promotion' was a partially accurate but poor choice of words. 'Overt friendliness' may be better.
Like, the second I heard my friend's cassette and realized that he had talent, I acted as if I had just listened to Liz Phair's Girlsound tapes or something. The excitement of discovery and the level of closeness between you and the artist can sort of lead you to hyperbole. While my friend's blues tapes were very good, I did not really feel compulsed to listen to them again.
I'm dragging this out and simultaneously sounding like a jerk and a dumbass but a part of me doubts that Mr. Tare's most enjoyed 'recent' artist is Prince Rama. when he made a list of his favorite music from 2009, he did put down 'Live sets' of Grouper, Animal Collective's opening act; what do you think that was hinting at?
I understand that many artists voluntarily pick their opening acts but it's just like Nathan Williams calling Cloud Nothings the best band working at the moment, and that group just happens to be opening for Wavves.
I'm probably wrong here but you catch my drift, right?

How often are people going to say exactly what they mean or be exactly correct about their answer in an interview? Or in any conversation for that matter? Does Dave even know what his "true" favourite recent artist is?

That he's a self-centred twit, I suppose. Or that he was familiar enough with them since they toured together to be able to appreciate them. Probably the first one though.

Sorry, I'm coming across as a bit of a jerk too.
This shit is bonkers... I love it.

Shadow Temple LP coming out on Paw-Tracks in September
WP what are you talking about?
obviously he likes prince rama a lot because he signed them to paw tracks man.
you would have to be preeetty psyched on a new band to sign them to your label, which probably means its one of your favorite bands at that time.
same shit with grouper, she was touring with them because the band liked her so much.
she wouldn't have been with them if she wasn't one of their favorite musicians at the time.
you're basically saying that when any popular band mentions another band that has something to do with them it's purposely for promotion reasons.
that's not the case at aaaaaaaaaaaaall.
maybe if you're talking about bands like the backstreet boys or miley cyrus or some shit, but this for sure does not pertain to AC in any way shape or form.
shit aside this band is awesome
